Washroom solutions that mirrored the client’s sustainable inclusivity and forward-thinking
Foothill Transit Headquarters
Project overview
Formed in 1988 as a response to service cuts in greater LA, Foothill Transit unites 22 member cities, operating 39 bus lines covering an area that stretches from Downtown Los Angeles to southwest San Bernardino County. Long established as a regional leader in service, safety, and clean energy, they have occupied several floors of office space in a classic mid-century building in West Covina since 2006. By 2019, it was time to update the restrooms for a more modern appearance and refreshed compliance. The brief
Foothill’s commitment to sustainable transit solutions called for their headquarters to embody similar inclusivity and forward-thinking. In addition to updated finishes, the new floor plan completely demolished the existing restrooms on four floors of the Foothill Transit Admin building. The reconfigured layout included four single-occupant restrooms with an ultra modern look consisting of bright colors, clean lines and soft lighting. The project would accommodate persons with disabilities and non-disabled employees alike and promote a feeling of calm seclusion in the restroom space. The solution
On advice from their design team, Foothill specified a suite of TSL products, inducing The Ribbon Faucet and Soap Dispenser and a custom Monolith sink with a narrow basin and facing fixture placement. We also fitted pipe skirts in brushed stainless steel for a coordinating ADA compliant interface and clean, minimalist lines. The sinks were fabricated in Corian Whipped Cream, a naturalistic beige finish with subtle feathering to match the soft warmth called for in the design brief. The subtle, clean finishes of the sinks and fixtures allows the colorful elements in the wash space to pop, and leaves the impression of a welcoming, positive space. In addition to the design concerns, the fixtures operate on a sensor and are easily refilled with the tanks concealed by the pipeskirts. The staff love the effortless maintenance and space-saving layout.
