The Design Museum
Project overview
In 2008, The Design Museum selected a Grade II* listed building that had stood vacant for more than a decade on West London’s Kensington High Street as its new home. The museum worked with three architectural firms to bring its vision to life. International architecture practice OMA was responsible for the overall master-plan, working in conjunction with London architecture firm Allies and Morrison on the exterior. John Pawson Architects, based in North London, was responsible for the interiors. The brief
The Design Museum has a high footfall, so it was important to offer a robust product without compromising on the design intent of the architect. Space was also tight in the superloos, which was factored into the design. The solution
The Splash Lab partnered with the John Pawson team to craft the hand-washing experience, creating a customised version of the Monolith Basin System that was installed in the main washrooms. When designing the hand-washing journey for the superloos, our single-user Monolith basins proved ideal for the space.
