When architects spec our products for their own washroom, that tells you everything.
Studios Architectural Office
Project overview
A progressive, international practice that made a name for them themselves working with tech clients in the 1980s, STUDIOS Architecture’s San Francisco branch has become a key voice in the development of the American workspace, cleverly repurposing and subverting the conventions of the corporate landscape. By playing with expected notions of urban versus suburban spaces, they pinpoint the defining humanity in the office environment. The brief
Studios Architecture has founded a non-hierarchical, thriving practice on evolving the workspace. When they relocated from the Orrick Building, the LEED-certified glass oasis they had designed in 2002, into a full floor of an office tower in the Financial District, they had to find a way to make this space speak to their particular calling. The surroundings were no problem: sweeping views of the San Francisco Bay and surrounding architecture provided A+ wallpaper. But inside, they’d need to impose their sensibility on a location not necessarily designed to convey the prestige and uniqueness of their vision. The solution
As a frequent TSL collaborator, STUDIOS was already familiar with our product line, so The Ribbon Collection and Monolith Basin System represented a natural choice for their home base. The office restrooms are comparatively low traffic, so STUDIOS’ interiors team opted for a traditional layout, leaning on the customizability of solid surface and our PVD finishes to put a sleek face on the restroom experience. Specified in Carbon Concrete Corian™, this view of the Monolith Basin System showcases how The Splash Lab can deliver on the industrial cool of a concrete sink, while conveniently sidestepping the pitfalls (cracking, staining, sealing) of the more traditional material. Paired with the black PVD-finished Ribbon tap and soap dispenser and mounted to a wall of vertically laid gray subway tile, the restroom fixtures and finishes showcase an installation of TSL products that is as versatile as it is distinctive.
