As product designers and producers, The Splash Lab works closely with inspiring architects every day to create washrooms that are not only beautiful but also intuitively functional. Collaboration is the key to success, which is why we are introducing our Voice of an Architect series – a space where we can amplify the work of the brilliant architects we co-create with and glean insights into their inspirations and processes. Ambitious and energetic design-led British architecture practice McLarenExcell, co-directed by Luke McLaren and Robert Excell in Marylebone, London, is the first in our Voice of an Architect Series – we love their incredible attention to detail and their use of a refined palette of materials. Here, Luke McLaren muses on favorite buildings and what it means to be an architect.
Who and what inspires you?
All sorts of things. It’s a cliché but inspiration is everywhere if you look for it. It might be in a fleeting moment, the result of a happy coincidence or the witnessing of something truly masterful, but the important thing is to be open to everything around you. We tend to become so obsessively focused on what we are doing that we can forget to look up and see all that life can afford.
